The blue balcony is in the heart of the ancient city of Gent, a stone’s throw from the beautiful cathedral of St. Bavo, home to the celebrated painting The Mystic Lamb by the Brothers Van Eyck. Kwaadham (angry gammon, roughly translated, heaven knows why) is a quiet residential street close to shops, banks, cinemas and public transport. The resident repertory theatre is just round the corner. The opera house is ten minutes walk away. See our links page for tips about city living.
You can reach Gent by motorway from Antwerp in 40 minutes or from Brussels in about the same time. Here's some information about parking in Gent. The roads tend to be rather busy, so you may want to come by train. Connections to Gent Sint-Pieters station from Brussels take half-an-hour. The station is fifteen minutes away on tram number 1. Connections to Gent Dampoort station from Antwerp take about 40 minutes. This station is ten minutes walk from the quiet residential street Kwaadham, 100 metres away from the cathedral. Here's an online map and here are the directions to The Blue Balcony.
